Welcome To Bremer Sanctuary Bremer Sanctuary, just north of Hillsboro, is the home of Hickory Hills Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society.
Not only is it a protected area and home for scores of birds and animals in central Montgomery County, Illinois, it is also an education center and a showplace for natural areas restoration. Spring and fall are especially active times for outdoor classroom education programs for county schools. But a hard working group of volunteers is involved almost every week throughout the year working to maintain the facility and in woodland and prairie restoration activities. (Plus, they welcome you to join them!)
In the photo above is The Barn where we have a small museum and where many of our educational activities are held. We also hold many of our monthly chapter programs here, or use The Barn as our gathering spot before we head out on walks. (We also end our walks here with coffee and donuts or other snacks.)
The website has been redesigned to not only provide you a more convenient site for information about Bremer Sanctuary, but to give you more information about our activities.
Check our Calendar, Maps page for upcoming activities, plus opportunities for you to take part as a volunteer in one of our many interesting and worthwhile work programs. There's also a page with information on how you can become a member of the Illinois Audubon Society and Hickory Hills Chapter, or become a "Friend" of Bremer Sanctuary.
We'll keep adding photos to our "Photos" page, as well as additional "soundslide" programs.
More details about the history of the chapter are on the "Bremer Info" page.

The sanctuary is open every day of the year from dawn to dusk. We ask that you respect the homes of our residents. Your dog is welcome to accompany you on walks, but please keep him (or her) leashed. Thanks.
We're updating the Bremer website to add some important news. Please turn to the "News" page for good news about Bremer volunteers and friends.
