Restoration At Bremer
The work of restoration at Bremer Sanctuary, is nearly a
year-round activity. Beginning in spring, the battle
against invasives begins with several work days dedicated
to control and eradication of honeysuckle. Through the
summer other invasives such as teasel need to be
monitored and eliminated. In the fall work begins on
opening fire trails through the woodlands and getting
ready for prairie burns in the fall and winter. Seeds are
gathered from native plants that need to be spread to
other areas of the sanctuary, or given or traded for
other seeds from neighboring sanctuaries. In winter,
burns are conducted and following the burns, seeds
spread. There's never a dull moment at Bremer!
